Ffordd-y-Deryn is the third 16mm scale model railway layout constructed by Gaynor and Tony Bird, the other layouts being first the Rhydypenau Light Railway and second the Rhydypenderyn. Both are still in use.

Like the previous layouts, Ffordd-y-Deryn is a modular design and was designed to be a reasonably sized, light, portable model railway. The layout is 6.4m by 4m and along with is scenery, lighting, and skirt fits into a trailer 1.5m just 0.6m deep.

The station complex depicts a narrow-gauge line serving a rural town. The track work consists of two circuits with passing loops, with connections between the two circuits. The track and points are scratch built using Tenmille bullhead rail. For space considerations, all the building are of a silhouette design of maximum 70 mm width. All buildings, scenery and fences are removable for transportation.

The layout’s construction was described during 2022 in the February, May and November issues of 16mm Today.
