Have a go at operating a layout
Junior visitors to the show can run trains on the “Dixon Green and Saed-y-Parc” layout – see the plan of the hall for where to find us.
We have a number of radio-controlled battery electric locomotives you can use, as well as a selection of trucks and carriages to make up a train. You can also help to operate the drift mine on the layout – either hauling loaded skips out of the mine or shunting mineral wagons in the adjacent sidings. If you’d like to run a train, just ask one of the adult stewards looking after the layout. If you’re running on the junior layout, this must be under the supervision of an adult who is responsible for you.
Or you can bring your own locomotive and rolling stock to use – either gas-fired live-steam or battery electric, 32mm gauge. To use your own locomotive, you must be a junior member of the 16mm Association or be operating a locomotive owned by a member and with their consent. To book a running slot with your own locomotive, please send an email to phil.a.thompson@aim.com, at least 48 hours before the show. In the email, please explain what loco you will be bringing, your preferred running time and the name of the adult who will be supervising you.
